Amtrak reduces Empire Service trains

Amtrak’s Empire Service linking Niagara Falls with New York City is operating on a reduced schedule because of Covid-19 concerns, the rail passenger carrier announced late Thursday.

“While Amtrak continues to operate across the nation, we have adjusted some services due to significantly reduced demand in key markets,” the company said. “The most up-to-date schedules are available when booking your trip on Amtrak.com and in the mobile app.”

Amtrak said last week it was suspending its Maple Leaf service to Toronto, though the train would continue to run in New York State between Niagara Falls and New York City’s Penn Station.

Adirondack service between New York City and Montreal has also been affected, with no trains working above Albany.

Weekday Northeast Corridor schedules between Boston and Washington have also been reduced by about 40%.
