Workers in Niagara County's home-delivered meal program for seniors will do their best to avoid contact with the recipients because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The county Office for the Aging, which closed all of its senior nutrition sites Tuesday, said those delivering meals will phone ahead to recipients, asking that they unlock the door of their home if there isn't a safe spot outside to leave the food.
The announcement said delivery personnel will try to make visual contact with the recipients to make sure they're safe, but they must remain at least six feet apart.
The agency wants to maintain its senior transportation service, but it warned that may be canceled if there are confirmed cases of COVID-19. Niagara County announced its first such case Tuesday night.
The service offers rides to medical appointments.
