The Niagara Frontier Transit Authority announced Wednesday afternoon that one of its employees has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
The male employee is not customer-facing, works in the yard shop for the Metro Rail system, and became ill while on vacation out of state, the NFTA said.
The employee was last on the job March 6. He became ill during his vacation and has been self-quarantined at home since March 14, the NFTA said.
"We are happy to say, he is recovering well and feeling good," the NFTA said in a statement. "Our thoughts are with our colleague and all of those fighting this virus. We are grateful to our team member who acted responsibly and helped the global wide efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19."
The NFTA said it has notified the Erie County Department of Health about the issue and are following "all appropriate protocols."
