The Buffalo Beauts open a two-game series with the Metropolitan Riveters today at 6:30 p.m. at ProSkate in Monmouth Junction, N.J., the team’s last away series of the regular season.
Buffalo (7-14-1) locked up fourth place in the NWHL standings after a 9-3 loss to Minnesota last Sunday.
As a result, the team will play Connecticut at the Northtown Center on March 6 at 8:15 p.m. in a play-in game for the NWHL postseason.
For now, the Beauts turn their attention to the Riveters (9-10-3), whom Buffalo is 1-3 against this season.
Metropolitan is coming off of a 5-0 loss at the hands of Boston. Madison Packer is third in the league in points for the Riveters with 32.
Taylor Accursi can become the all-time Beauts scoring leader this weekend. She is currently tied with ex-Beaut Kourtney Kunichika with 42 points.
Her teammate, Corinne Buie, can become the fifth member of the league’s “25-25 Club,” which honors those who have logged 25 goals and 25 assists in their NWHL careers.
She needs one more of each to join Jillian Dempsey, Madison Packer, Brianna Decker, and McKenna Brand in the club.
Beauts fans should be on the lookout for two new numbers on the ice. The team announced Thursday that Merrimack College standouts Mikyla Grant-Mentis and Lea-Kristine Demers have signed contracts for the rest of the season.
Grant-Mentis will sport No. 10 for the Beauts. She is Merrimack’s all-time leader in points with 117.
Demers, a goalie, was eighth in the country in total saves with 795 and finished her college career with a .910 save percentage. She will wear no. 1.
The series with Metropolitan finishes Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at ProSkate.
