Crystal M. Fleming, author of "How to Be Less Stupid About Race," will deliver a free Black History Month address on decoding and ending racism from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Burchfield Penney Art Center on the SUNY Buffalo State campus, 1300 Elmwood Ave.
Fleming is associate professor of sociology and Africana studies and an associate faculty member in the Department of Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies at SUNY Stony Brook. In the book, she uses critical race theory, black feminism, humor and classical sociology to critique and decode white supremacist messaging in the classroom, pop culture, media and politics.
She has been featured in Newsweek and the Boston Globe as well as on Al Jazeera and C-SPAN and will sign books after the program. Her appearance is sponsored by Buffalo State and the Africana Studies Department.
