The Buffalo Beauts will wrap up the home portion of the schedule beginning Saturday when the team opens a two-game series with Minnesota at the Northtown Center at 2:30 p.m.
The Beauts (7-12-1) are 1-3 against the Whitecaps (13-5-2) so far this season. Both teams are coming off losses in their last time out; Buffalo fell to the Metropolitan Riveters, 4-3, while Minnesota lost 4-2 to Boston.
The Whitecaps’ Amanda Boulier has already set an NWHL single-season points record for defenders with 23. Buffalo’s Mary-Jo Pelletier is right behind her with 20.
Beauts’ forward Iveta Klimasova is close to a record of her own. With two points, she can become the first native European on the team to score 20 points in a season.
Buffalo will be without defender Sara Bustad for Saturday’s contest. The league announced that she has been suspended one game for kicking Madison Packard during the Beauts/Riveters game last Saturday.
The team also signed forward Kristin Lewicki to a contract for the rest of the year. She had a goal and two assists against the Riveters.
Buffalo will hold its annual “Teddy Bear Toss” on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to bring brand-new teddy bears to the Northtown Center.
When the team scores its first goal, fans will throw the bears onto the ice; team officials will collect them for donation to WNY Heroes.
After the homestand concludes Sunday against Minnesota, fans will have the opportunity to take pictures with the players at stations around the arena. That game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
