Man with silver hook tries to rob convenience store in 'We Never Close' building

A man wearing safety glasses and armed with what appeared to be a silver hook tried robbing Cameron's 24 Hour Store on Wednesday morning, according to a Buffalo police report.

The would-be robber walked up to the cash register at about 9 a.m. and demanded money from an employee of the store, located at the corner of Elmwood and Bird avenues in the building known for its "We Never Close" signs.

The employee grabbed a baseball bat from behind the counter and the assailant fled, according to the report. The suspect was last seen running down Granger Place.

The would-be robber was described as a white male, about 5-feet, 8-inches and weighing 150 pounds. He had a brown mustache and wore a black jacket, shirt, gloves and blue sneakers. The employee told officers he believed this was the same man who robbed the store about four months ago.
