Letter: Do not discard plastic bags, which can save many trees

Plastic bags are ubiquitous because they are so immensely useful.

Their disposal is not more problematic than is the disposal of other plastic and, as with other plastic, is simply a problem not yet solved. Meanwhile, the use of plastic rather than paper bags has spared tens of millions of trees.

And trees are the “other half” of every breath we take.
