Letter: Health care scholarships could solve staffing woes

The Buffalo News published stories of health care facilities experiencing understaffing. Providers work extra shifts resulting in stress-related health problems. My suggestion: Replace athletic scholarships with health care scholarships.

Provide tuition assistance to students pursuing careers in health care. Offer internships in hospitals, senior/assisted living facilities, rehab facilities and local police and firefighter stations. Students can earn credits toward tuition or college costs.

Political leaders should pass legislation to reduce the cost of medications needed to control critical health conditions. Provide free or reduced-cost medications that control heart or breathing, allergies or problems over which the patient has no control.
