Buffalo man sentenced to 18 years in prison for fatal shooting

A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a fatal shooting in the city's Riverside neighborhood last August, Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn reported.

In handing down the sentence to Juan A. Ayala-Colon, 27, County Court Judge Susan Eagan also ordered five years of postrelease supervision.

Ayala-Colon pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on Dec. 17 in the shooting of Norbert Guzman Tapia, 25, outside an apartment on Upper East Lane on the evening of Aug. 27.

Tapia later died in Erie County Medical Center.

Ayala-Colon originally was charged with second-degree murder.
