Leonardi's former Amherst location becoming third Mister Pizza

Two months into the Amherst pizza vacuum left by the closing of Leonardi's at Grover Cleveland and Longmeadow, Mister Pizza is stepping into the void.

The former Leonardi's at 614 Grover Cleveland Highway is on the way to becoming the third outpost of the Elmwood Avenue favorite. Mister Pizza also has a location at 643 Grant St. near SUNY Buffalo State.

It should be open in two to three months, said Nick Laspesa, a manager at the Elmwood location. The menu will be the same Mister Pizza standards. Beyond pizza, wings and subs, there's tacos, salads and dinners like fried chicken or pork spare ribs.

"It's gonna be the same exact menu, same quality ingredients. Same exact style," Laspesa said.

At the end of December, the family that ran Leonardi's decided to close up shop after 47 years.
