Charity hockey matches highlight Tonawanda's Winterfest

Charity hockey games among volunteer firefighters and police are a highlight of this weekend's annual Winterfest event in the Town of Tonawanda.

The festival started Thursday and runs through Monday. Activities include a wine tasting, an outdoor softball tournament, hay rides, biergarten, synchronized swimming demonstration, arts and crafts and other family fun, open ice skating, miniature golf, curling and fireworks.

The Winterfest takes place at various locations in the town, including the Paddock Chevrolet Golf Dome, Aquatic and Fitness Center, Lincoln Arena and the Jefferson Youth Center.

On Saturday, members of the Brighton Fire Department take on members of the Kenmore and Kenilworth fire departments at 1:30 p.m., followed by the town police battling the Ellwood Fire Department at 2:45 p.m. Both matches take place at Lincoln Arena. Admission is free for the hockey but donations are welcome.

Some events require advance registration or tickets. For more information on Winterfest visit the town's website.
