North Boston fire leaves family of five homeless

A fire Sunday morning in the Town of Boston left a family of five homeless, said a fire official in North Boston.

The fire reported at 11:12 a.m. destroyed a three-bedroom, split-level ranch at 5631 Northside Drive in North Boston, said Greg Wieckowski, chief of the North Boston Fire Company.

“When we got there, fire was showing through the front windows, and the mother and three young children were out of the house. One dog was saved, the other didn't make it,” said Wieckowski. "The house has to be completely rebuilt.”

Two broken water mains hampered firefighting efforts "a little," Wieckowski said.

The American Red Cross was called in to assist the family. A Go Fund Me page also was set up to provide help.

No damage estimate was provided. The fire remains under investigation, said Wieckowski.
