HOOP DREAMS – The Kelly for Kids Non-High School Basketball League for teens 13 to 17 will start in January in the Gloria J. Parks Community Center, 3242 Main St. Games will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. on Fridays. To be eligible, players must not play on any freshman, junior varsity or varsity basketball teams. HIGH TIDE – Aquarium of Niagara, 701 Whirlpool St., Niagara Falls, is celebrating the holiday season with a variety of programs and activities. There will be feeding of the Humboldt penguins at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., holiday-themed sea lion shows at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., reindeer games, coloring and photo stations, hot cocoa and cookies. There will be a special sea lion show with a ball drop and an apple juice toast at noon next Tuesday, New Year’s Eve.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except next Tuesday, when closing is at 3 p.m. Admission is $14.95, $10.95 for kids 3 to 12. Save $1 off one admission per person with donation of a canned good for the Community Missions of Niagara Frontier. For more info, visit aquariumofniagara.org.

APPLY YOURSELF – It’s not that far away, the Jan. 15 deadline for applications for $34,000 in college scholarships to be awarded by the Buffalo Branch of the American Association of University Women. Two $5,000 Women Entering College scholarships are available for high school senior girls in Erie and Niagara counties heading for college in 2020. Two $4,000 Catalyst for Change scholarships are offered for women living in Western New York or attending college here. And two $8,000 Olga Lindberg scholarships will be given to women going on to graduate studies. For more info, visit aauw.buffalo.edu. Scholarships are funded through the Buffalo Branch’s annual book sale in May.
