Find your tree and enjoy family activities at these local Christmas tree farms

For many families, choosing a live Christmas tree is an annual tradition. For others, this might be the year they consider a fresh-cut tree instead of an artificial one. Visiting local tree farms for cut your own or pre-cut trees can turn holiday prep into a special occasion. The variety of area tree farms means you can choose your outing style, from rustic and simple tree selection, to a full day of related holiday activities.

For more than 25 years, Desiree Bliss of Williamsville and her family would gather with 11 other families to “tailgate” at Jurek Trees of Clarence, sharing hot cocoa and swapping homemade cookies before choosing their trees. Afterward, everyone would go out for chicken wings.

For the past 16 years, Jennifer Poydock’s family has been returning to Evergreen Hills in Holland. This family-run business offers free hot chocolate and candy canes for their kids and the location lets them make a day of it, visiting the village of East Aurora after the tree farm before heading home to Amherst.

If you’re looking to start a new tradition or just get outside for a fun winter activity, here’s a list of some area spots that offer both cut your own and pre-cut tree options, unless noted.
