Canisius hockey loses to Army, 4-3

Canisius couldn’t hold on to a one-goal lead in the third period and was defeated by Army, 4-3, on Friday at the LECOM Harborcenter.

Army’s game-winning goal was scored by Eric Butte with three seconds left in regulation. A goal by Michael Wilson earlier in the period had tied the game. The Golden Griffins (2-9-0, 1-4-0 AHA) had goals from Grant Meyer, Matt Stief and Matt Hoover in the loss.

Canisius also lost starting goalie Jacob Barczewski to an injury in the first period. He was replaced by Matt Ladd and later Daniel Urbani.

The Griffs have now lost four straight games. They’ll play Army (9-4-0, 7-4-0 AHA) again on Saturday to conclude the two-game homestand.

In Lewiston, Eric Cooley scored the game-winning goal four minutes into overtime to lift Niagara over Air Force, 4-3, at Dwyer Arena.

It was Cooley’s second goal of the season. Noah Delmas was credited with the assist on the score.
