Jersey Phillips scored 25 goals for LID (Lancaster- Iroquois-Depew) last season in the WNY Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Federation. It looks like she will get plenty of help this season.
Sophomore Morganne Dee scored four goals, Phillips, a senior, had two and senior Bethany Horvatis had a goal and four assists as LID trimphed over CASH (Clarence-Amherst-Sweet Home), 7-1, Tuesday at Holiday Twin Rinks.
Amanda Cole had the other goal for LID (1-0-0-1), which received a 15-save performance from sophomore Mackenzie Walkowiak.
Sydney Spear had the CASH goal.
Keegan Shanahan scored twice and assisted on another goal and Brooke Becker had a goal and two assists as seven different FLOP (Frontier-Lake Shore-Orchard Park) players scored in an 8-1 win over the NiCo (Niagara County) Lady Warriors at Hyde Park.
Mary Kromer, Gabby Messing, Kathleen Dougherty, Carlin Jones and Jessica Carey had the other goals for FLOP (2-0).
Amanda Jackson scored for NiCO (0-3).
Monsignor Martin scored three unanswered goals in the second period and added another in the third after Kenmore-Grand Island had taken a 2-0 lead for a 4-2 victory at the Lincoln Park rink.
Hutch girls triumph
Tournament MVP Courtinea Smith had 28 points and point guard D’Zhanna Newsome added 25 points for Hutch-Tech in the Engineers’ 83-48 triumph over Emerson in the championship of the Kenmore East tournament.
“We played well as a team tonight,” said Hutch-Tech coach Michael Lewis. “Courtinea Smith is in her junior year and she should hit the 1,000-point mark before Christmas. She’s going to be a premier player for us this season.”
Kenmore East won the third-place game, defeating Sweet Home, 54-27. Arneice Wilkins had 19 points and Elliana Masecchia had 14 for the Bulldogs. Zora Flash led Sweet Home with 12 points.
In boys basketball, Lavardi Mance put up 34 points for Global Concepts Charter in a 60-54 nonleague win over Burgard. Lafairo Ross scored 15 points and Tyshawn Rosenthal had 13 for Burgard.
Depew icers win
Riley Kubiak registered two goals and an assist and Trent Kubiak made 19 saves for Depew in a 6-2 win over Iroquois in their nonleague boys hockey game.
Braden Zeier and Connor Heubusch scored four goals each for Kenmore West in a 13-1 rout of Rush-Henrietta of Section V. Three Blue Devils goalies, Max Pelino Mark Butler and Josh Kwoka combined for the win.
