Send in the plows, but keep them quiet

Jonathan D. Epstein

Have no fear. The city snowplows are here – at all hours.

Morgan Smith, deputy executive director for Buffalo Place, was updating the nonprofit group's board of directors Wednesday about how its operations crew had performed a week ago when it was "put to the test" with the early snowfall. He noted that the workers "performed well overall," although "there's always room for improvement" and the organization plans to implement some changes to its procedures.

At that point, one of the board members asked how the workers coordinate with the city to remove the snow. "We'll call the city when there is snow to pick up," Smith said.

And that's when the chuckling started.

"Yeah, at 1 o'clock in the morning at Roosevelt Plaza," joked Steven J. Carmina, an architect and vice president of the board, who lives in a building across the street at Main and Genesee streets.

"Beep ... beep ... beep," chimed in developer Rocco Termini, laughing.
