Daemen was ranked No. 1 the East Region for NCAA Division II men’s basketball teams in a poll released Monday. The Wildcats (5-1) garnered 57 points and three of the six first place votes to edge Saint Anselm (N.H.), which had 56 points. The poll was conducted among the region’s Division II Sports Information Directors (D2SIDA).
The only loss for coach Mike MacDonald’s Wildcats was to defending national Division II champion Northwest Missouri State in the season opener in St. Joseph, Mo.
Daemen will be home to Le Moyne on Tuesday and Wilmington (Del.) on Saturday afternoon this week. They will face Wilmington in KeyBank Center in preliminary to the St. Bonaventure-Canisius game.
In addition, Daemen junior Andrew Sischo was named East Coast Conference Player of the Week for the second week in a row and senior transfer Joey Wallace was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week. Sischo is averaging 25.2 points a game for the Wildcats.
On the women’s side, Daemen is ranked No. 9 in the East Region in the lastest D2SIDA media poll.
