Two Buffalo residents recently reported losing nearly $30,000 combined in thefts involving a game of pool and a Bible.
The first took place Oct. 18 but wasn't reported until Saturday. The victim said he was having some people over to his apartment in the Hydraulic Lofts, 500 Seneca St.
The group went to the building's billiard room, and the victim thinks that's when the thefts occurred from the apartment. The victim reported losing three gold rings, two watches and a coat worth a combined $14,350.
It's not clear when the second theft occurred but it happened on Mills Street on the East Side. The victim said he got into a scuffle with someone he knows. Police were called and the victim was arrested. While he was in custody, the door to his room was left open.
The victim said he kept $15,000 in a Bible, and the other party involved in the confrontation knew this. When the victim returned he discovered the money, a smartphone and a watch were all gone.
