Train carrying butane derails in Niagara Falls

A train derailment left three tanker cars on their sides in Niagara Falls Saturday afternoon.

At 3:57 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office called the Niagara Falls Fire Department about three tanker cars that had derailed near a service road by a Wendy's restaurant at 6020 Porter Ave. A fourth car was derailed but upright.

All four cars were filled with butane.

The fire department, along with members of the Niagara Air Reserve, responded and inspected the scene. They found that none of the cars were leaking and released the situation to officials from railroad operator CSX Transportation.

There were no injuries. The cause of the derailment is under investigation, according to a CSX spokesperson.
