Matthew Giordano, who served as the vice president for academic affairs at Villa Maria College from 2012 to 2018, was installed as the college's fourth president during ceremonies Nov. 15 in the college auditorium on Pine Ridge Road in Cheektowaga.
Giordano supervised the launch of three programs: flexible business, game design and computer software development, each developed in response to the demand for jobs in these fields in the area.
Giordano played a leading role in developing the college’s plan, which resulted in enrollment growth and increased student retention. Between 2009 and 2012, he served as the chairperson of the liberal arts department and was a faculty member in English from 2005 until 2012.
Giordano studied English and philosophy at Binghamton University and earned his master's and doctorate in American literature from Ohio State University. Originally from Rochester, Giordano is married to Jennifer Desiderio, an English professor at Canisius College.
