Niagara County jail deputy chief honored at luncheon

Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour announced that his deputy jail administrator at the Niagara County Correctional Facility has been given a Gold Key Award from the WNY Chemical Dependency Consortium at its 30th annual awards luncheon Friday.

Deputy Chief Daniel Engert has worked for the Niagara County Sheriff's Office since 1990 and has served as deputy jail administrator since 2009.

Voutour said that under Engert's leadership, services to inmates for substance use disorder treatment have dramatically increased, with more than 300 inmates having benefited from treatment services over the past year.

The program, which provides individual and group therapy sessions, is a collaboration with Bestself Behavioral Health Clinics.
