Man who transported machine guns to Buffalo from Alaska sentenced

An Alaska man who pleaded guilty in August to unlawfully transporting 12 machine guns to Buffalo from Alaska was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to serve five years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors said 26-year-old Benjamin Handley, of Homer, sold the fully automatic firearms – with their serial numbers obliterated – to an undercover agent with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

In addition to Homeland Security, the case was investigated by the Boston division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Alaska state troopers.
