Transitional Services buys LocalEdge building in Tonawanda

Transitional Services Inc. – which helps people living with mental illness and related substance abuse issues transition to community housing – plans to move about 30 caseworkers and other staff into a recently purchased Town of Tonawanda office building.

The nonprofit paid $850,000 for 1945 Sheridan Drive, near Colvin Boulevard, now owned by the internet marketing company LocalEdge, public records showed.

LocalEdge in the spring listed for sale buildings at 1945 and 1965 Sheridan. The company planned to move Tonawanda employees to its offices in Amherst.

LocalEdge has an option to remain at 1945 Sheridan up to six months while it sells 1965 Sheridan, said Rosemary Duran, Transitional Services' executive director.

The nonprofit needed more room for caseworkers, who visit clients in their apartments, and wanted to own this larger building, Duran said. Those employees now work in Kenmore in rented space at 1591 Kenmore Ave. and in space at 1605 Kenmore that the agency will sell.

Transitional Services will make some renovations to 1945 Sheridan before moving in, likely by September.
