Niagara hockey earns first point; Canisius falls

It’s taken until the seventh game this season but the Niagara men’s hockey team earned its first point of the year in a 2-2 tie with RIT.

Niagara (0-6-1, 0-2-1 AHA) tied it on Eric Cooley’s goal 7:26 into the third. He was assisted by Luke Edgerton and Jordan Wishman.

Niagara’s first goal came from Ludwig Stenlund on the power play off a RIT goaltender interference offense. It’s the first goal for the 2018-19 AHA rookie of the year this season. Freshman Chad Veltri made 24 saves for Niagara, which hosts RIT tonight at 7:05.

Canisius (1-5-0, 0-1-0 AHA) lost 4-2 to Robert Morris. The Griffins were coming off their first win of the season, 4-0 over Union, and promptly allowed four unanswered goals to Robert Morris on Friday.

Blake Wareham and Simon Gravel were the two goal scorers. Jacob Barczewski did not allow a goal in replacement of starting goalie Matt Ladd.
