A Medina man who pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular assault has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice Russell P. Buscaglia to serve 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors said 19-year-old William McKee, on Dec. 27, was speeding on Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park when he crossed the middle lane into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a car driven by a 69-year-old man.
McKee and the driver of the other vehicle were taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center to be treated for injuries.
The first officer to arrive on the scene of the accident smelled alcohol on McKee's breath and detected other signs of intoxication, prosecutors said. A search warrant was obtained for a sample of McKee's blood, which was found to contain a 0.12% blood alcohol content.
The test also detected signs of recent marijuana use, according to prosecutors.
