It's not a whale, but new car wash coming to Town of Niagara

TOWN OF NIAGARA – The first car wash since “Willy the Whale” swam away is coming to town on Military Road.

The Town Board this week reviewed and seemed ready to approve a proposal to construct a four-bay car wash at 2727 Military Road by Lewiston resident Adam M. Backus. The plan to combine four commercial lots next to Advance Auto Parts was previously reviewed by the Planning Board and is on the Town Board agenda for Nov. 19.

Backus explained that the 3,796-square-foot facility will feature two robot bays and two hand-wash types. He said he hoped to begin work soon as weather permits. The facility should open next year.

Supervisor Lee S. Wallace said the project is welcome as the property has “been a vacant lot forever.”

“It won’t be a blue whale,” he joked which prompted a short discussion on the massive blue whale structure that was located at Military and Factory Outlet Boulevard in the 1970s and early 1980s, and which had a twin on Young Street in Tonawanda.
