Accessibility improvements planned for vets' post in West Seneca

Nine community organizations are combining efforts and finances to make a West Seneca American Legion post more accessible to veterans.

The Erie County Veterans Post Restoration group, BankOnBuffalo and seven other organizations are putting up money and donated labor to renovate bathrooms and build a new outdoor entrance ramp at Post 735, 35 Legion Parkway.

The groups are working with Operation Appreciation, a local effort to make veterans posts in Erie County safer and more accessible to veterans with physical challenges, said Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns, a volunteer member of Veterans Post Restoration.

He noted that many veterans posts were built before the Americans with Disabilities Act became law in 1990.

Details of Operation Appreciation and its ongoing efforts involving 18 posts will be discussed in a press conference at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12 at Post 735.
