Price tag for site of Amazon's Tonawanda distribution center: $1.7M

Amazon has paid $1.7 million to buy the property in the Town of Tonawanda where it plans to build and run a $25 million warehouse and distribution facility.

The global online retailer agreed in June to buy the 24-acre site at TM Montante's Riverview Solar Technology Park, and the sale closed Oct. 18, according to the deed. However, the transaction wasn't publicly recorded until Friday.

TM Montante sold the property through its 5201 River Road Inc. entity and Amazon acquired the land through a limited liability company.

Montante Construction is building the 117,000-square-foot facility off River Road for Amazon. Work began several months ago. The center should employ hundreds of part- and full-time employees by late 2020.

Town officials approved the project over the summer under the code name "Project Bruno." The Buffalo News had reported in May that Amazon was behind the project, but the company didn't confirm this until late October.
