Grain scoopers spotlighted at First Ward museum photo exhibit

A museum dedicated to preserving the history of Buffalo’s Old First Ward unveiled a new exhibit through November to salute the area’s grain scooping legends.

“Waterfront Memories & More Museum,” at 41 Hamburg St., is located along the Buffalo River at Mutual Riverfront Park.

The museum's monthlong exhibit will feature a book signing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 9 by Tim Bohen, local businessman and historian. His book, “Against the Grain, the History of Buffalo’s First Ward,” will also be discussed by the author and available for sale.

In addition, a display by photographer Gene Witkowski will include environmental portraits of the men at the heart of the local grain operation, the grain scoopers.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Saturday.
