Olympia Sports is closing its Lockport store as a new owner takes over a sporting goods chain that is shutting down half of its retail locations.
The shutdown of the Lockport store is one of 76 store closings that will reduce the size of the Olympia chain to 75 locations. The closings include 12 stores in New York. Olympia, which once had a larger presence in Western New York, now has only one remaining store in the region, in Dunkirk.
Olympia was recently acquired by sports retailer JackRabbit. The 76 stores that are closing were not part of the acquisition.
