Erie County Legislature 9th District: Democrat Gilmour wins seat vacated by Dixon

Attorney John J. Gilmour won a wide-open race Tuesday in Erie County's 9th Legislative District, The Buffalo News declares.

Gilmour, a Democrat and political newcomer, defeated another first-time candidate in Republican Ryan R. Stang to represent Hamburg, Lackawanna and South Buffalo in the Legislature.

The two squared off for the seat being vacated by Lynne Dixon, who ran against Mark Poloncarz for Erie County executive.

Gilmour, 42, is an attorney who campaigned on fiscal stability for Erie County, improving county infrastructure and economic and workforce development.
