A field of 11 Breeders' Cup Classic hopefuls were drawn on Monday afternoon at Santa Anita Park that will look to capture the $6 million feature race prime time Saturday evening.
McKinzie (3-1) drew the No. 8 post for trainer Bob Baffert who will look to extend his record win total to four in the final of 14 championship races over the weekend.
Travers and Jockey Club Gold Cup winner Code of Honor (4-1) and Gold Cup winner Vino Rosso (4-1) on the host track are the co-second choices on the morning line. They dueled at Belmont Park last month with Vino Rosso being disqualified, elevating Code of Honor to the victory.
Elate (6-1) will look to duplicate Zenyatta's feat from 10 years ago, to become the second female horse to win the Classic. The 2017 Alabama winner will pass on the Distaff to take on the boys at her preferred mile-and-a-quarter distance.
Pacific Classic winner Higher Power (6-1) drew post No. 7 for trainer John Sadler who won last year's edition with Accelerate.
Bill Mott who trains Elate, will also send the late closing Woodward winner Yoshida (8-1) to post, who will be right outside his mare.
It's a well balanced field which also includes winners of the Preakness, Pennsylvania Derby, Stephen Foster and Awesome Again, all that likely will be double digit odds on the tote board at post time.
Here's a look at the field for the 36th Breeders' Cup Classic:
|1||Math Wizard||Saffie||Santana, Jr.||30-1|
|2||Seeking the Soul||Stewart||Hernandez, Jr.||20-1|
|4||War of Will||Casse||Gaffalione||20-1|
|10||Vino Rosso||Pletcher||Ortiz, Jr.||4-1|
|11||Code of Honor||McGaughey||Velazquez||4-1|
