The Village of Middleport, once known as Tea-Pot Hollow, is less than an hour from Buffalo and minutes from Lake Ontario. Situated on the Erie Canal, it is a popular destination for boaters. The village's motto, "A Friendly Community," is said to have come from a remark by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during a trip along the canal. Highlights of the village are the vertical lift bridge over the canal, parks, many historical buildings including the former Universalist Church built in 1841 and its friendly people.
