Former Canisius College guard Isaiah Reese was selected sixth overall in the NBA G League Draft on Saturday by the Austin Spurs and then traded to the Santa Cruz Warriors.
The Warriors acquired the rights to the 6-foot-5-inch Reese along with a 2020 second-round pick in exchange for the rights to center Kavion Pippen.
Reese announced in March that he was leaving the Canisius program to pursue a career in pro basketball. He had been suspended in February for "conduct detrimental to the team" and did not return.
He played with the Houston Rockets in the Las Vegas Summer League. He played a total of 14 minutes over three games with one basket.
Reese, the preseason Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason player of the year, averaged 11.8 points per game and 5.9 rebounds in 20 games last season. He racked up 1,033 points and 433 rebounds in three seasons with Canisius. He was the first Griff sophomore to be named to the All-MAAC team since 1994.
