K9 helps track down suspected would-be bank robber in Buffalo

A Buffalo K9 unit helped track down a suspected would-be bank robber Monday, police said.

Lance Malone, 42, was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted robbery following an incident at a bank on Bailey Avenue, south of Kensington Avenue, police said.

At about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Malone allegedly came into a bank and handed a teller a note demanding money. Malone then left the bank, police said, fleeing in a black SUV.

Officers said they used the city's surveillance camera system to track the suspect to a home in North Buffalo. K9 Paddy and Lt. Elizabeth Baker entered the house and gave warnings to anyone inside of the house, police said.

K9 Paddy was able to locate the suspect in a closet, "under many articles of clothing, hiding in the dark," police said. Malone was taken into custody without incident.
