RPI routs Canisius hockey

Matt Long of Canisius (0-3) scored the game’s first goal but RPI scored the next five and went on to a 7-2 hockey victory over the Golden Griffins on Saturday night in Troy.

The Engineers scored three times on the power play as the evened their record at 2-2.

Goals by Brady Ferner and Todd Burgess gave RPI a 2-1 lead after the opening period. Patrick Polino, Jake Marrello and Ottoville Leppanen made it 5-1 before Austin Alger scored the second Canisius goal at 9:19 of the third. Canisius was 0 for 5 with the man advantage while RPI was 3 for 6. The Griffs were outshot, 34-29.
