A pizza deliveryman needed 19 stitches to close a cut to his head early Sunday after a robber he attempted to disarm clubbed him with a handgun, Niagara Falls police reported.
A 52-year-old employee of Mr. Ventry's Pizza was delivering an order to a home in the 400 block of 19th Street just before 1:30 a.m. when the incident occurred, police said. He was met by two women wearing hoodies, who came from the rear of the residence. While speaking to them, a man confronted the victim, pointed a handgun at him and demanded money while threatening to kill him.
The victim grabbed the gun and the man's arm, police said, and they fell to the ground, where they wrestled briefly. The victim was then struck with the gun and the robber took $560 in cash from him before running off. The victim drove himself to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where he was treated for a gash over his right eye.
Police described the robber as a black male, about 5 feet, 8 inches and thin. He appeared to be in his late teens to early 20s, according to reports.
