Falls man hospitalized after apparently being shot with buckshot

A man dragged from a car by assailants Friday night was shot in the left shoulder with what appeared to be buckshot, Niagara Falls Police reported.

Police were called to the 600 block of 20th Street around 7:30 p.m. to investigate a report of shots being fired, but found no evidence or witnesses. Minutes later they were called to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where a man had arrived suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Antwon J. Smith, 29, of Niagara Avenue, told police that he had been sitting in a car at 20th Street and Walnut Avenue when two black men approached and dragged him from the vehicle. He said that as the three “tussled,” a loud noise rang out and he felt burning pain before realizing he had been shot.

Smith was treated at Memorial, then transferred to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for additional treatment.
