The Lockport Police Board decided Friday to interview three more candidates for police chief: Lt. Salvatore Licata and retired officers Steven Abbott and Jeffrey Brodsky.
Alderman Richard E. Abbott, a board member who is not related to Steven Abbott, said he expects the interviews to be held on or about Oct. 29.
Meanwhile, Detective Lt. Todd A. Chenez withdrew his candidacy, while Detective Capt. Anthony J. Palumbo remains an available candidate on one of the two civil service lists being used, city civil service secretary Mary Pat Holz said.
Capt. Douglas E. Haak Jr., acting chief since Sept. 30, also is in the running. Haak, Chenez and Palumbo were interviewed Sept. 16.
The Police Board's Sept. 19 decision to disqualify Chenez and Palumbo was reversed by the city Civil Service Commission, which decided the board couldn't decertify a civil service list until it had offered the chief job to someone. It hasn't.
"The roadblocks we've run into are frustrating," Richard Abbott said.
