Former University at Buffalo guard CJ Massinburg has signed with the Brooklyn Nets, the team announced.
Massinburg becomes the first UB player to sign with an NBA team and join a training camp since Mitchell Watt signed with the Golden State Warriors in 2014. He played for the Brooklyn Nets in July in the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 4.8 points in limited action in four games.
Massinburg, who was on campus as recently as last week, led UB in scoring (18.2 points per game last season) and is second on the school's career list with 1,990 points. He set the school record with 636 points in a season.
Named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, Massinburg made a team-high 93 three-pointers and is second in school history with 273.
If Massinburg does not make the NBA roster, he could be designated to the Long Island Nets of the G League.
