Hilbert College installs new president

Hilbert College has formally installed its fourth president, Michael S. Brophy.

Brophy, who took office at the Hamburg college in January, said the college has the opportunity to embrace a 21st century higher education model, while the sustaining and deepening the Franciscan gifts and tradition.

“In those times of discernment, and there will be many, all we have to do is cross the road and visit with the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph,” Brophy said. “Their wisdom about Hilbert’s past, the decisions they had to make to adapt to the times, and their laser focus on serving those in need. They are our inspiration.”

Brophy, who installed Friday, is the former president of Benedictine University of Illinois and Marymount California University.

“The vitality of our intellectual community is being infused with high energy and exciting plans for our future,” said the Rev. Michael Sajda, chairman of the college’s board of trustees.
