North Dakota completed a sweep of Canisius, with a 8-1 hockey rout on Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D., after a 5-0 win Friday.
Canisius got the game’s first goal when Austin Alger scored at 4:05. David Melaragni had the assist.
Mark Senden, Collin Adams, Gabe Bast (power play) scored in the second period for UND. Jacob Bernard-Docker, Harrison Blaisdell, Andrew Peski, Cole Smith and Westin Michaud scored in the third.
Canisius was outshot 37-12 and was 0 for 5 on the power play. Jacob Barczewski made 28 saves for the Griffs, who will play RPI in Troy on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Buffalo State football falls
Buffalo State’s first game as a member of the Liberty League resulted in a 48-14 loss to Ithaca on Saturday at Butterfield Stadium in Ithaca.
Joe Germinerio passed for 325 yards and three touchdowns and ran 1 yard for the opening score in the Bombers’ victory. Ithaca (5-0, 2-0 Liberty League) is ranked No. 10 in the nation in the D3football.com and the AFCA national NCAA Division III polls.
Ithaca recovered an onside kickoff to start its opening drive and twice scored with a short field after Buffalo State went for it on fourth down with fake punts and was unsuccessful. The longest of the Bombers’ six touchdown drives was 55 yards.
Zak Ciezki (Cheektowaga) of the Bengals completed 24 of 39 passes for 286 yards, including touchdown passes of 49 and 28 yards to Jordan Evert (Sweet Home).
Gino Bonagura and Devin Delmont (St. Francis) had 10 tackles each in the loss as Ithaca outgained Buffalo State, 483-358.
The Bengals (0-5) will look for their first win of the season when they face Rochester in a Liberty League game at noon on Saturday at Coyer Field.
