Bantamweight (54 kg.) Mikiah Kreps of Niagara Falls was the first American to win in the Elite World Women’s Boxing Championships on Wednesday in Ulan Use, Russia. Kreps scored a 4-1 victory over second seeded Karina Tazabekova of Russia and next will face sixth seed Dina Zholaman of Kazakhstan on Thursday.
Other Team USA winners on Wednesday were Rashida Ellis of Lynn, Mass., who was the winner on all five judges’ cards in her victory over Francesa Amato of Italy at 60 kg and Oshae Jones of Toledo, Ohio who gained a unanimous decision over Dariga Shakimova of Kazakhstan at 69 kg. The U.S. will have seven boxers in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
