Jamestown man accused of making false report about shots fired

A Jamestown man who allegedly made a false report to the Carroll Police Department was arrested Thursday and transported to the Chautauqua County Jail, town police said.

Police said the caller, 21-year-old Dale R. Linkous, claimed possible gunshots were fired in the area of Bruce Road and Oak Hill Road in the town, and indicated that more than one suspect wearing hoodies were hiding in nearby bushes. Police advised the Frewsburg Central School District of the situation.

A subsequent search of the area determined that the information supplied by the caller was unfounded.

Linkous was later charged with second-degree criminal contempt, for violating an order of protection, police said.

Carroll Police were assisted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and State Police.
