BB&G Charities might not be a name you know yet - but it's one you can get behind.
It stands for Building, Believing & Giving and it's a local group that strives to give underprivileged children the chance to experience "the joy and positive developmental benefits of supervised activities and camping experiences." That happens through various charity events like the Buffalo Sports Pod-A-Thon III, taking place from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 12 in RiverWorks (359 Ganson St.).
At the event, you can meet local celebrities, sports figures, podcasters and comedians offering a variety of entertainment.
Howard Simon from WGR-550 will host a trivia game with contestants including Jenna Callari, Paul Hamilton, Brian Koziol, Kevin Sylvester, Frankie Feathers and Nathaniel Oliver. Comics Chris Gullo and Shannon Dawn will do some stand-up comedy. There will be a Tee-2-Green presentation with Kevin Sylvester and Ryan Talbot.
The event also serves as a launch party for a new children's book by local author and BB&G celebrity ambassador Keith White, based on the charity's mascot Nickel T. Buffalo. White is donating 100 percent of the profits from "Nickel T. Buffalo Starts a Podcast!" to BB&G Charities.
Nickel will be at the event, along with another familiar mascot, Sabretooth.
Roselyn Kasmire, author of the children’s book “Poncho Power” about the late Buffalo Bills superfan Poncho Billa, will be signing books.
There will be raffles and auctions for sports memorabilia.
Admission is free. A food option ticket includes a pizza and wing buffet and open refreshments; cost is $25 for adults or $20 for kids/a non-alcoholic ticket. Visit bbgcharity.org.
