Buffalo fire houses opening their doors to kids during October

The City of Buffalo is offering kids tours of neighborhood fire houses, where they can meet firefighters and get free coloring books during National Fire Prevention and Safety Month.

Hosted by the Buffalo Fire Department and Mayor Byron W. Brown, the tours also will include activities for children and smoke detector giveaways.

The open houses are scheduled for:

• 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15, Engine 21, Jefferson Avenue and Kingsley Street

• 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19, Engine 37, Rhode Island and Chenango streets

• 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 19, Engine 3, Broadway and Monroe Drive

• 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24, Engine 38, Linden Avenue and Colvin Boulevard

• 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 26, Engine 4, Abbott Road and Hollywood Avenue

• 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 26, Engine 23, Bailey and Hewitt avenues
