A SUNY Alfred State freshman driving home to Buffalo Friday evening was killed when his vehicle collided head-on with a tractor-trailer in the Town of Sardinia, state police said.
Cameron J. Velasquez, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Velasquez was traveling northbound on Route 16 at 5:30 p.m. Friday when the 2006 Jeep he was driving crossed into the southbound lane, and struck a 2013 Peterbilt flat bed tractor-trailer head on, police said. No further information on the crash was provided by police.
Velasquez was identified on social media as a 2019 graduate of Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School in South Buffalo.
The school is planning a prayer service for Velasquez 8 a.m. Monday in the Bishop Timon gym. Friends as well as classmates are invited to attend.
This is the second member of the Bishop Timon community to be killed in the past three months.
Paul Humphrey, 17, a Timon football player and member of the Class of 2021, was shot on Briscoe Avenue near Walden in in Buffalo's Schiller Park neighborhood at about 12:50 a.m. on July 13.
Humphrey was taken to Erie County Medical Center for what police initially described as serious injuries, but was later pronounced dead.
