The Lovejoy Gospel Church at 5922 Genesee St. is one step closer to constructing an addition to serve its growing congregation after the Lancaster Town Planning Board signed off on the state environmental impact review.
The 4,150-square-foot expansion of the church building would accommodate youth programming and include additional parking for 46 vehicles, new lighting and landscaping, said Matthew Fischione, supervising code enforcement officer.
The Lovejoy Gospel Church formed in 1978 and first worshipped at a storefront at 1212 Lovejoy St. before moving to new facilities at 1578 Clinton St. and then 1050 Walden Ave. The church built a church on its current site in Lancaster in 1998.
The project’s environmental impact review is expected be approved by the board when it meets Oct. 21.
